The Cure

I'm no longer broken.  The day after I complained about not having finished reading a novel in ages, I started one, and just finished it, and will start reading the sequel shortly.

The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins

If you haven't read it, go do so now.  Yes, it's YA.  Yes, the narrator is a sixteen-year-old girl.  But I don't care who you are, this is a great book.

  1. Nothing quite like the feeling of finishing a novel. :) Even better than the excitement of starting one.

  2. Definitely one of the better YA books that has come out in the last few years. I had trouble putting that one down, as well!

Glad to hear you're getting back into the swing of things! :D

  3. Thanks guys! And Jason, just to be clear, I mean I finished READING a novel.

Although, I did actually win NaNoWriMo during my break between reading novels. I joked then that is was literally easier to write a novel than to read Gravity's Rainbow.

  4. Whoops. Just smack me. Shows where my head is. (I'm trying to get my own novel rolling again.) Add that to a very un-work-motivated day and lack of sleep.

  5. Firstly thanks you for the sweet comments on Jinksy's blog. Fart poetry is my forté!

Getting published is one hell of a job and I should know as I have written two, out of a series of six, novels and no bugger wants to publish ‘em. I have also just finished an essay (I think) of my walks in and around Essex (87, 645 words) and all I have got is self publishing companies eager to sell to me. And you know how much these chaps want? £8,000 for 500 books. I should coco. I could do it meself cheaper.
Anyway, good luck with getting published. I wish you all the best.

  6. Thanks, C.J.! Good luck to you! I'm actually not to the submission stage yet. The novel I most recently 'finished' was just a first draft, and above I was actually refering to *reading* a novel. I know, that's not normally a blog-worthy accomplishment, but it's been a weird several months.

Since a few people now have the impression I was talking about writing, I edited the post to clarify :)
